The Role of Technology and New Media in the Tsunami Relief Efforts

The Center for Media & Community was pleased to partner with the Innovation Funders Network, Grantmakers Concerned with Refugees and Immigrants, and the Women's Funding Network in order to produce a webcast on February 9, 2005 entitled "The Role of Technology and New Media in the Tsunami Relief Efforts." Speakers included Andrea Taylor, Cedar Pruitt and Andy Carvin of CMC, Emy Tseng of the Innovation Funders Network, Michael Stein of GetActive Software, Angelo Embuldeniya of Volunteer Sri Lanka, and Prashant Hedao of the Auroville Tsunami Relief Centre in India.

The webcast addressed the role played by blogging, RSS feeds, SMS text messaging, online fundraising, and GIS mapping software in tsunami relief efforts, and discussed what preventive measures can be taken to address future disasters. The forum has been archived and is available online.
